I, Bonginkosi Emmanuel Nzimande, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, in terms regulation 10(3) read with sub regulation (8)(a) and (c) of the Disaster Management Act, 2002: Regulations relating to COVID - 19, Government Notice R398 of 2020 published in Government Gazette No. 43107 of 18 March 2020, hereby issue the directions as set out in the Schedule.Notwithstanding the date of publication of this Notice, the directions shall be deemed to have come into effect from 08 May 2020 as set out in the Schedule.Dr BE Nzimande, MPMinister of Higher Education, Science and Technology
The purpose of the directions is to:
(a)Allow for the once off travel of final year medical students studying at public higher education institutions to travel from their homes to the university campus where they are registered for study during the period 8-31 May 2020.
(b)Permit the recommencement of the academic year for final year medical students at South African public universities with effect from 11 May 2020.
